A few months ago deep in the haze of lockdown 1.0 in between homeschooling my eight year old twin daughters, cooking and housekeeping, I indulged myself in table laying escapism.

My passion for laying the table started when I was a little girl, I would always be responsible for setting the table for family occasions.  Using flowers from the garden and my mum’s best silver flatware, china and crystal glasses I would always enjoy this ritual. My mum, busy in the kitchen cooking up her delightful meals, always laughs and admits that she does not have the patience for this job!  Fast forward many years later when I visit my parents home the same ritual still is in place: I am in charge of setting the table and I love it.

Despite training as a commercial laywer my heart has always been in the home.  I recall whilst working as a trainee solicitor living in a house share in London I organised a little dinner party for my friends.  Even then I was thinking about tablecloths, napkins and the like! I even bought a floral Cath Kidson tablecloth for the occasion, although this subsequently got lost in the midst of home moves, or perhaps on reflection my husband may conveniently have had something to do with it’s disappearance. Let’s just say he is not a big fan of the full on floral look!

It was in lockdown 1.0 that I discovered the inspirational Instagram account of The Countess of Belfast, Oilbhe Belfast, Tablescape Style.

Through Tablescape Style Oilbhe has created a beautiful platform in which she shares timeless tablescapes to delight and inspire.  I was honoured to have some of my tables featured, it really gave me such a personal boost during the first wave of the pandemic.

What originally started out as a platform for sharing tablescapes and interior inspiration has developed into a beautiful business where Oilbhe curates decor for the table and home.  Oilbhe has a talent for combining antique pieces with new more modern looks to achieve a freshness and modernity that is hugely appealing to many of us.

I am honoured to share with you that Oilbhe is featured in this At Home With Style Series feature and I think you will really enjoy reading her beautiful interview.
